Christian Baptism

The form of Baptism performed in most Christian churches is absolutely foreign to the scriptural pattern.

"Unto what then were ye baptised?” Acts 19:3

Encyclopedia Britannica 11th edition., Vol. 3, Pg. 365-366 - The Baptismal formula was changed from the name of JESUS CHRIST to the words Father, Son and Holy Ghost by the Roman Catholic Church in the second Century.

Vol. 3, Pg. 82 - Everywhere in the oldest sources it states that Baptism took place in the name of JESUS CHRIST.

Catholic Encyclopedia - Vol. 2 Pg. 263 Here the Catholics acknowledged that the Roman Catholic Church changed Baptism.

Canney Encyclopedia of Religion - Pg. 53 The early church always baptised in the name of the LORD JESUS until the development of the Trinity Doctrine in 2nd century.

New International Encyclopedia - Vol. 22, Pg 477 The term “Trinity” was originated by Tertullian, A Roman Catholic Church Father

Hastings Encyclopedia of Religion - Vol. 2, Pg. 377 Christian Baptism was administered using the words, “in the name of JESUS.”
Vol. 2, Pg 378 - The use of the Trinitarian formula of any sort was not suggested in early church history.
Vol. 2, Pg 389 - Formula of Baptism The Baptismal formula was always in the name of ‘LORD JESUS’ until time of Justin Martyr when triune formula was used.

Catholic Encyclopedia - Vol. 8 - Justin Martyr was one of the early Fathers of the Roman Catholic Church.

What is the foundation of Christ’s Church?
Is it the doctrine of the apostles and prophets? True. But there is more.  “He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” MATTHEW 16:15-18.
These Scriptures give us the under-standing of what the (true) church is built upon.

“Upon this rock I will build my church;”
The ‘rock’ is the REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST of who He really is and because of what the Father had shown Peter, Jesus gives him the keys to the kingdom.
Matthew 16:19 “And I will give unto thee the KEYS OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Most all churches today follow a literal interpretation of Matthew 28:19:
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” (As we have seen, it was not always so.) Yet...on the day of Pentecost, the inauguration of the Christian Church, Peter commanded the people thusly: “...Repent, and be baptised every one of you in the name of JESUS CHRIST for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” ACTS 2:38
Notice, that those baptised contrary to Peter’s formula were commanded to be re-baptised in the name of the Lord, as were for example John the Baptist’s disciples who were baptised unto John’s Baptism of repentance (ACTS 19:1-7).
If there was a need for re-baptism then, we have to ask now how much more would the need would be for re-baptism for those baptised using the Trinity formula, which we now understand to be compromised teaching?baptism-praise

Now we must ask ourselves:
Is Scriptural Baptism to be performed in the name of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost which are actually titles or do we follow Peter’s example, baptising in the name of JESUS CHRIST? Or is there really a choice to make?
Both commands are in the Bible. Is one right and one wrong? If so, then the Bible is not to be trusted. Or is it possible there is an understanding that the apostles had that the church somehow lost?

FACT: The act of Baptism with wording as literally stated in Matthew 28:19. The titles “Father, Son, and Holy Ghost” is not the same as…
ACTS 2:38 “...in the name of Jesus Christ...” (When the Kingdom was opened to the Jews)
ACTS 8:16 “...in the name of the Lord Jesus” (When the Kingdom was opened to the Gentiles)
ACTS 10:48 “...in the name of the Lord” (When the Kingdom was opened to the Samaritans)
ACTS 19:5 “...in the name of the Lord Jesus” (nor for those re-baptised in obedience to receiving further understanding)
I Cor. 1:13 “Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptised in the name of Paul?” (No! You are baptised in the name of the one crucified for you.)
Col. 3:17 “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus”
Col. 2:9 “For in him [Jesus] dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” The name (singular) of the three offices of God (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost) is the LORD JESUS CHRIST. When the church divided God into three persons (Trinity) this truth was lost.
Ephesians 3:14, 15 “For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,” Deut. 6:4  / Mk 12:29, 32 / Gal. 3:20 1 Tim. 2:5 / James 2:19 / Rev 4:2 Follow the Scriptural pattern and you can expect Scriptural results. “...and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
